Rice for Plastics
Started in 2020, the Plastic for Rice Initiative supports local farmers, combats Bali’s beach pollution and nourishes the local community. It provides rice to local villagers through a barter system, where a kilogram of rice is given in exchange for every kilogram of plastic trash that is collected, to date more than 30,000 kilograms of rice have been provided. The initiative is continually expanding and is now operational in 12 villages.
Cultural Dance School
“Little Dancers of Kelating,” a fully-funded indigenous dance school preserves and cultivates a centuries old art. Students learn both traditional dance and music and perform weekly. Religious traditions of the local context are respected at Soori Bali, an SCDA designed culturally and environmentally sustainable resort, thus preserving and co-existing with the local heritage.
Turtle Rescue and Release Programme
In keeping with our commitment towards wildlife conservation, we have worked with local conservation groups to collect sea turtle eggs of the Olive Ridley species. The hatchlings from these eggs, carefully reared to suitable maturity, are then released into the Indian Ocean during opportune tides.
Coastal Cleanups
Semi-annual Coastal Clean Up with participants from nearby elementary schools are hosted by the Soori Green Council and supported by the Tenda Initiative. This important event helps educate children on the environmental impact on the ocean and sustainable waste management practices.
Parley X Soori

Other Initiatives
The importance of education is highlighted through the establishment of free English classes held at a local elementary school, as well as within the compounds of Soori Bali.
